"¡Mofooooooongoooo!"
Yesterday evening was spent at the San Juan Cinemafest (the island's yearly foreign film festival) with Danny and Juan. Had a lot of fun watching A mi madre le gustan las mujeres ("My mother likes women," for you language-impaired folk.), a light Spanish comedy that overall wasn't anything to write home about, but did its job of making us laugh. Met some friends of theirs, too: Naldo, who I had already met many months before and was working at the event (also snuck some of us in with the volunteer's passes - unfortunately for Juan and I, we'd already bought tickets); Ray, who's a pretty cute fellow of Asian descent (actually, I think he's part Thai if I remember right, just like dear Shinkuu); Ray's boyfriend Pedro, who looks WAY young for his age (he's apparently in his late 20's from what Danny said, and he looks younger than any of us, even "baby-faced" moi) and is quite friendly; and Jaime, one of Naldo's roomies I hadn't met before, also pretty friendly. I was kinda shy (as I usually am when I meet new people), but all in all, good times were had.
Aside from that, an update on my Suikoden 3 thoughts:
-The story has picked up somewhat during the chapters 2 and 3 of all three main characters (on a side note, Thomas' second chapter was cute, and Cecile's such a sweetie to him), and it seems like it'll finally hit full swing in chapter 4, which kicks off with an unexpected little twist (well, it was a surprise to me, at least), but I'm still pretty hesitant to consider it a worthy successor to the previous two games. Anyway, since there's left to completion of the story, I certainly hope that this one and chapter 5 are lengthy enough to bring a proper resolution, since it's only now that it picks up the pace.
-Incidentally, I guess that's what my real problem with Suiko3 is: the pacing is very different from the previous games. I mean, I've never denied that the main characters themselves are alright enough - Hugo's a cute kid that's growing up a lot in the process of the game thus far, Chris is a strong and beautiful woman, and while Geddoe's (who I find fairly attractive, even with those really hollow cheeks of his ^.^;) personality is thus far a bit TOO quiet to be truly effective, his mercenary teammates are a complete RIOT (Oh, and though Thomas isn't "really" a main character like the others are, he's a real sweetheart.). However, I still haven't developed an attachment to any of them like I did with other characters in the previous two installments. It might be the aforementioned pacing issue, but....
-One thing that's also made me warm up slightly to things has been the appearance of references to the old games: People have mentioned Miklotov, Fitcher, and Marlowe, and there's been several little bits mentioning the Toran Republic and the Dunan Unification War. It's still not enough references in my opinion, but I guess since it's been 15 years already and all....
-I have to admit one thing, I AM interested in one new (minor) character, and that would be Edge, the cute (And yes Red, he's a redhead. Stop laughing.) teenager that's lugging the Star Dragon Sword, claiming to be "holding on to it for someone important." I MUST KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS CONNECTION TO ZEE "BEAR." MUST MUST MUST. Unfortunately, there's no other details onwhether Viktor ran off with Flik for a second honeymoon and didn't want the sword to come along Edge's claims, not even after having Kidd do all the inquiries for him. *kicks Kidd* ;_;
-Speaking of Kidd, thus far he's been a pretty sucky detective (Or rather, Konami was sloppy/lazy in making up good miscellaneous info about the stars this time.). I don't care how much of a homage he is to the Detective Conan series (a lot of people here are going to miss the joke anyway), I would've much rather had Richmond come back. Richmond kicked ass, yo. Him AND his theme music (despite its funny title - I mean, seriously, "Dandy Richmond?" *snicker*).
-I've yet to pick up Viki, which is now my prime goal (Hopefully Kidd will have something new to say about her - must always have Viki info, yes.... *cuddles the cutecute ditz*). I noticed something about her game portrait, though - why the hell was she drawn with green eyes? They were brown in both Suiko1 AND 2! *kicks the artists for the continuity fuckup*
-Speaking of returning characters, I saw Tuta in one of the early chapters of the game (he still wears the funny bun ^^). Wow, he's become a really attractive (and surprisingly masculine, considering I originally thought he was a girl in Suiko2 O_O) young man, and it's really cute how he blushes when Mio (his nurse) praises his skill as a doctor. Haven't recruited him yet tho' (you can only recruit Mio first), so I don't know if he's still available as a party character like he was before. I also met up with the not-so-little-anymore Lilly Pendragon during Hugo's second chapter, and she was a rather amusing brat (makes hell for her caretakers ^^). Apple seems to be more relaxed and cool-headed than ever (which works as a foil to Ceasar's habit of saying exactly what he thinks), too.
-Oh yeah, in case anyone was wondering about the "yaoi factor" in the game: I am honestly NOT seeing anything thus far that would be believable (I wholly expect for fangirls to wind up slashing Borus and Percival despite Borus' obvious love of Chris and Percival's combination of being a flirt + apparently also having a mild crush on her, though. :P). I can see a number of hetero pairings though, and maybe even a little bit of yuri. Anyway, still two chapters left to see what else is there.
.....and that's about it for now. Damn, for a game I don't hold as a favorite and have all these nitpicks with, I sure did say a lot. @_@

Still. One girl. Five adoring guys. It's Fushigi Yuugi all over again.

Anyway, while I'm pretty sure I've seen couples with personalities like Borus and Percival's that've worked, you've nailed it right there in what the problem I've got with it is: there's no real chemistry (other than buddies) to make it plausible. I mean, their dynamic isn't anything like say, Camus and Miklotov's (< fangirl >Or Viktor and Flik's, for that matter. >D< /fangirl >), which gave some pretty fair room for speculation. Oh sure, you can claim there's that bit where Percy (Bwahahahah, I SO loved that bit in Iksay when Chris taunted him. >D) was listening to Borus angst about what he did in Karaya, but I didn't see Percival particularly going out of his way to try to calm him down.
Jesus people, having an Unite Attack doesn't mean there's going to be h0th0t sexx0ring going on. If it was, we'd be seeing Kinnison x Shiro, Viki x Abizboah, and Hugo x Fubar porn and AUGH MY BRAIN IT BURNS FROM JUST COMING UP WITH THAT KILL ME NOW NOW NOW.Of course, I can't be too judgemental. Couplings with even LESS plausibility than the concept of Borus and Percival have been made up before, and I'm not even counting crossover pairings at the moment. So more power to those Borus x Percy fans, and if one of them can actually come up with a way to make it believable to me, then props to them.
Also, I would think it's more like 6 adoring men (Maybe 7 if Fred is really interested in her like Rico seems to think, heehee.). I don't care how much you claim you've got a "missus," Nash, but you ARE macking on Chris, you sly little man, you. ;) But geez, you'd think she'd be a Mary Sue if she weren't official... ^^;

Y'know, I took one of those 'Which Suikoden slash pairing are you?' tests, and got ShiroXKinnison. Owch.
Yeah, I don't want to put down anyone who may like that pairing ... heck, I like PercivalXBarts, and that's an even stranger brand of crack. But I don't even wanna read it, personally. I get the feeling that's going to be one of my random 'squick!' pairings.
But you're right, that does make it seven! Now she can summon Suzaku - I mean the flame champion. ;-)

Ah, the completely random pairing. Never have been very much into them, though interesting stuff can come out of it. Now, if you can only get Barts (such a cutie ^^) to stop paying attention to his precious "veggie-kins" (Oh man, that comment gave me a fit of giggles when I first saw it. XD) for at least a few minutes, heh....
