Betty vs. Leti, Round 1, FIGHT!

Holy fucking shitsticks, Batman, La Fea Más Bella (literal translation: "The Most Beautiful Ugly Woman") is a CARBON COPY of Yo soy Betty, la Fea (trans: "I am Betty, the Ugly One"), from the similar character names, to the identical series of events, to all the way down to the script's lines!
I am NOT saying it's plagiarism, though, because it's TOO blatantly identical, and such a thing wouldn't go by unnoticed, especially not with Betty la Fea's tremendous success a few years back. That, and the fact that the SAME channel (Univisión) that aired Betty is now airing La Fea Más Bella.
What I actually THINK is going on is this: According to my mom, it is a common occurence that, if a novela (that would best translate as a soap opera to you guys, except for the fact that our soaps actually have, y'know, endings) is popular enough, the plot is "recycled" and used again. This is usually after say, a decade or so has passed, when the old show has faded from memory and there's a new generation of viewers to draw in.
What's strange in this case, though, is that the original (Betty) is only like, less than 5 years old. In fact, it was re-aired in its entirety early last year (Or was it late 2004? I forget.). Meaning it's still pretty fresh in most people's minds (unless you have the memory of a gnat, I guess).
The funny part is that this "remake," instead of improving upon any weak spots the original might've had (which, IMHO, were few) is actually worse. I'm not saying this to be an elitist "ZOMG TEH ORIGNAL WUZ SOOOOOOOO MUCH BETTAH!!!!!!1" bitch - it's just that, after watching this one episode of La Fea Más Bella and comparing it to my memories of Betty, I found that the acting was kinda... well, simply put, Fea Más Bella's cast is trying to act more "natural," which doesn't really work, as it's a comedic novela. The original cast wasn't afraid to act over-the-top, in fact, they were downright "cartoonish" at times, which made for a more entertaining show.
Also, Betty's cast was way hotter. (Yes, I'm shallow.)
Oh, but why the hell am Igeeking talking about this here? The only person who MIGHT know what I'm talking about is
charmwitch, and I don't remember if Betty aired during the time she was living in Florida and never saw the show. Ah well, here's hoping I may run into another fan or something. Or heck, I'm feeling talkative: you guys, feel free to ask me anything about Betty if you're curious and want to know more about it. :D
