So today, after leaving the parking lot of the supermarket (Mom and I were picking up the turkey and a few other things) and started heading home, I stop behind another car at the light. My eyes happen to stray towards the license plate, and it turns out to read...

396-UKE

My two thoughts were:

1. As incredibly juvenile as it is, it would only have been better if that first part of the plate had read 369. (Or maybe 669, for that matter.)

2. Also, for this find to be a TOTAL AND SUPREME WIN, the car with the plate should've been either a Hummer or one of those really oversized pickups. (You've all seen my interests, I think it's obvious why I say this. >D)

...it was pretty hard trying not to crack a grin or giggle (and mystifying my mom with it) on the way home. XD

I'm back.

I can explain in detail what happened if anyone wishes to know, but the gist of it was: Things start innocently enough with old computer dying, got a new laptop (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu's help), got DSL, switched modem that came with the DSL service to a wireless one, NEW computer has faulty motherboard and is sent away to get fixed (took maybe three weeks), then I manage to break TWO wireless modem/routers in the span of two months (by then it was the end of May or so when things with the comp/internet finally settled down).

However, in addition to the technical difficulties, well... remember those old high school friends I mentioned back in December? Well, at about the same time the computer stuff went down, my offline life decided to give me a sound kick in the rear by making me realize that, despite having neglected them for such a long time, they (especially one in particular) still wanted me in their lives; and I, after several years of living rather like a hermit, realized that I wanted... no, craved that company.

So, I started seeing them - as well as a longtime neighbor/very close friend who I also had neglected, who's currently going through some personal problems - regularly. Very, very regularly. At least once a week (usually my neighbor friend, since she's the closest), now that things have settled down a bit. My online time (which I'd reduced considerably) was also mostly eaten up by them for a good long while, since we use Facebook to keep in touch/plan stuff.

Once I started to have some more spare time online, however, I did, in the past few months, slowly manage to catch up with the entire backlog of entries for - at the very least - the LJs of my closest friends, and - in the case of those of you I don't know quite as well - went back a few months in those journals, so I'm MOSTLY up to speed in what y'all did during my absence. It was also a reason for my further delay in posting, as I wanted to be caught up with you guys before I said anything here.

...that and the fact that, when I started to realize how long it was taking me to catch up and just HOW long I'd been gone, I... well, I got anxious. And when I get anxious, I procrastinate (further). I started to think you guys would be angry at me for abandoning y'all so suddenly, and I couldn't handle the thought, so I took even longer to finish than it should've taken.

...which leads us to this point. Now that - with a little prodding from [livejournal.com profile] redconverse because frankly, I'm still really, really anxious - I'm here posting again, I wanted to say that:

I apologize. In my attempts to reconnect with my old local friends - which I had terribly neglected for many years - I wound up neglecting you guys just as much, and that's not fair at all, as your friendships are just as very real and important to me as theirs are. I only hope I can find a "happy medium" between online and offline life so as to not do that to any of you (and by that I also mean my local crew) ever again.

All I can hope for is your understanding, if nothing else. I was a jerk, and I'm sorry.

Went yesterday to the movie theater to see I Am Legend with a friend of mine. Spoilerless review: We both found it to be as good as people on my friends list have been saying it was, and - if you didn't know this already from seeing even a little of the version of Six Degrees of Separation he starred in - it really does show that Will Smith has talent as a serious actor. Also, the freakin' dog was great, man. That was one seriously well-trained animal.

Today we got some pasteles and pernil from the lady that does me and my mom's hair. The pasteles were made by someone else, but the pernil was cooked by her - both were equally delicious. We also got some dulce de arroz (which I'm not that big a fan of) and a little bit of coquito from her to top it off - both were also quite tasty. Yum, holiday food is the best! :D

Anyway, now I will be heading shortly to my friend's apartment to celebrate the New Year with her and her family (and probably will drink more coquito there, since her mom was talking about possibly making some the other night :D), so I'll be ending this post with this: I want you all to know that I hope 2007 was kind to you (and if it wasn't, then I hope it was as benign as possible), and wish you all to have an even better 2008.

Cheers, to the New Year!

I know most of you are probably sleeping at this hour, but I just wanted to wish y'all a Merry Christmas! Hope you guys have a wonderful time once you wake up in the morning!

As for me, I'm a little sleepy (It's 3:00 AM here as of this writing.) but fine. Got some nice cards from some of y'all, and some very lovely presents from a couple of you (As well as from my parents. I'll save listing the total haul until the rest of the holidays and my birthday goes by, though, heh. XD), and even though I already thanked each of you individually for them all, I just wanted to say: Thanks again! You are all awesome! ♥

Anyway, gotta go sleep now. Again, Merry Christmas! :D

Went to the mall today to pick up my copy of Wild Arms 5. Got an employee by the name of Gustavo who was pretty friendly (And apparently recognized me from a previous purchase, because he said hello straight away and I KNOW I recognize his face from somewhere - maybe when I bought Persona 3? Or maybe earlier than that, I dunno...) and started talking about how much he wanted to play it, but he's still busy with another game (which title I can't recall now), and that he has a bad habit of leaving games halfway finished ("Haha, just like me!", I said. XD). I told him I was in the same boat, that I was getting WA5 before it became hard to find and was busy with P3 for the time being, and he was like "OH MAN, Persona. I've played the previous games, and I want to play this one SO BAD, but I still have that other game to finish! How is it?" I told him that I haven't had a chance to really dig into the game much, but thus far it's been enjoyable.

He HAS listened to the soundtrack, though, and told me he really wanted to find the complete version. I, being the good little enabler/crack pusher that I am, told him about CDJapan (Speaking of which, I got an email from them today saying that they got my money and are working on getting the items. Yay! Prepare for burninated copies sometime soon, [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu! :D). Hopefully he'll remember the URL (didn't have anything to write it down on), though it's a short one and he said he has a good memory for that stuff.

Anyway, WA5. Haven't played it (of course not, I just got back from the store, after all :P), and am not planning to start on it anytime soon as I'm still trying to make time for P3, but I DID open the box to look at the bonus goodie it came with - an artbook detailing the Wild Arms series over the past 10 years (Wow, it's been that long already?). So, I perused its contents.

Dude, XSEED went all out on this - it's small (same size as the game box) and it's softcover, but it's got a whopping 80 pages, and it's all either stuff you'd find in the official artbooks or individual character art. And it's NOT like, a lot of art for WA5 and then little-to-none of the previous games - it's actually really well-balanced out.

And they even remembered the old-style art from the original WA! :D Actually, all the art save for one picture (of Magdalen, who apparently was never in any of the original version's art) was of the original-flavor WA rather than the Alter Code: F version, which while quite welcome (I'm glad they didn't forget the old art in favor of the pretty! I mean, I LOVE the pretty, but there's a certain charm to the old art that's not to be missed.), was a little weird. (I would've liked it even better if they had featured some of both versions of the game rather than just one of them - kind of like a before/after thing.)

Anyway, final veredict on the bonus artbook - while obviously not nearly as great as having the actual artbooks for each game, is still a GORGEOUS and EXCELLENT piece of swag, especially for the price of the game (just $40 on Amazon). Good job, XSEED, good job. :D

Oh, BTW, am I the only one amused by the fact that the designers for the WA5 box AND the designers for the P3 box both went with the (pretty stylish) notion of having just the characters' silouhettes on them, while having different art on the actual games' cases? Coincidence? *dun dun DUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNN!!!* XD

Today, when mom and I went to Tierra del Fuego (Translation: "Land of Fire") an Argentinian steakhouse to have lunch, we had a waiter whose name is - I'm not joking - Dionisio. Dude, how cool is that, being named after the Greek god of wine and theater? Hooray for geeky parents! :D

In other news... is it just me, or has Kingdom Hearts Japanese fandom (heck, maybe even the entire fandom in general) grown a lot bolder in "defying" Disney? I mean, there's actually some KH doujinshi up for grabs on eBay. NINE of them, even. Is the severe amount of pure, undiluted GAY that the games possess just overpowering whatever sense of "caution" the J-fans used to have, or something?

Not that I'm complaining, though - I think it's great that there's finally more doujin for KH floating around. :D I'm betting they're going to sell for a LOT, though - maybe not for the $200+ one of the previous doujin sold for (Back in early 2003!!! Holy shit where has the time gone?! O_o), since there's more of them this time around (and the fact that the doujin collecting fad seems to have calmed down a little, compared to back then), but if there's one thing KH fans are, it's RABIDLY DEVOTED, so I'm sure they'll sell for a high price by auction's end. Which is why I'm not even going to try my hand at nabbing one, eheh. ^^;

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] redconverse, today I mailed out that VNV mp3 disc I said I was gonna send you a while back. Sent it to your home address, if that's okay with ya. By my estimate, you should get it hopefully by Saturday or so, Monday at the latest. So, enjoy! :D

And for the rest of you, to make this post actually worth something, here's a fun link: #1 Song on This Date in History. It lists dates as far back as the 1890's!

I found out that the #1 song on my birthdate was Michael Jackson's "Rock With You." What did you guys get for yours? :D

Mom and I finally got new cell phones today. Mine's a red RAZR, which aside from being very sleek and sexah, makes a contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS in Africa. Pretty AND goes to a good cause, however small the contribution may be, yay! :D

My phone number's still the same, though, so no worries or hassles there. Then again, I think the only one of you guys who ever had my number is [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu when he made his trip here, so I guess there's no point to this, eheh. ^^;

But... but... phone pretty! Just needed to share that. ^_^;

And now, to make this post even MORE pointless, a meme! Am I a seme or an uke? Find out right here! )
aruru: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, I got your package today. I didn't know you hadn't wrapped my birthday present, so I opened it kinda early, eheh. Oops. ^^;

But SQUEE! Tokunaga! (And I got the KOS-MOS head. Cute!) And the entire set of Lost Universe DVDs! You are too nice and awesome to me, man. THANK YOU! *HUG* :D

Other than that, it's been a fairly quiet day thus far. Played the beginning of FFIV Advance while I was waiting at the therapist, ran some errands with mom, and then we had some pizza for lunch. Mom said that we're going to try this one restaurant she's got coupons for on my birthday, which is next week. Hope the food's good, it's supposedly a reputable place for... uh, I forgot what kind of cuisine they feature. I think it's Spanish, though. ^^;

Oh yeah, and my parents gave me another $100 back on the 6th (my Día de los Reyes present). Still don't know what to do with it yet, though, so I'll just save it up. But yay, moneys! ^^

Cards.

[livejournal.com profile] snarkyllama, I just got your New Year's card. Happy llama card, eee! It was very sweet. I wanna chat with you again sometime too - you're really fun to talk to!

Thank you! ^_^
aruru: (Default)
How did I spend my New Year? Oh, just sitting here with my parents, chilling and drinking a little coquito when the time for the countdown came. Nothing special, though I did do the "eating 12 grapes for good luck" ritual some folks do to welcome the new year (another one is throwing water [about a saucepan-full of it] over your shoulder out a window or balcony, but we don't do that one because we're wary of stray bullets from morons shooting their guns at 12:00).

Anyway, I really hope that the new year brings good things to y'all. Cheers! :D

More loot!

Aww, [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, it was sweet of you to get me FFXII and all, but I already had it - I even posted about it in a previous entry! I guess it just hasn't been your year in guessing at gifts for me. ^^;;;

However, not to worry! I got the salespeople at the Babbage's in the mall to exchange it, no questions asked, so everything's fine!

So, after doing that, I came away with new loot:

- Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin for the DS.
- A copy of Okami of my very own!
- I also went to Suncoast and exchanged that extra copy of Robot Chicken I mentioned in the last entry, and came away with a widescreen edition of Lady in the Water.

So, everything's worked out swimmingly. Yay! Thank you again, Shroomy! *hug* I hope you're enjoying your gifts too! :D
aruru: (Default)
I hope everyone's having a good time!

As for my haul, thus far it's:

- $100 from my parents.
- Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy and vol. 2 of the Slayers novels from [livejournal.com profile] redconverse. (Awesome, thanks! I always found that movie hilarious, and now I'm this much closer to having all the Slayers books that've been published - yay! :D)
- The Black Mages II: The Skies Above CD and Robot Chicken: Season 1 from [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu. (Yay, thank you! I'll be listening to this album in a bit! :D Though "eep!" on the Robot Chicken, as I had bought it this past week without knowing you had gotten it for me. No problem, though: I haven't opened that copy, so I can just go back to Suncoast on Tuesday and return it - I'm pretty sure it's still within the time frame for returns. So don't worry about me! ^^;)

And that's it for now. Again, Merry Christmas to y'all! :D
aruru: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] redconverse and [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, I mailed out your packages today as promised! I'm a little scared about any abuse your package might receive on its way there, Red, as all they gave me was this flimsy-looking bag-type envelope to mail your box in. Hopefully the box itself is sturdy enough to make the trip! And if not, I put insurance on the thing, so hopefully there won't be a problem, eheh. ^^;

But anyway, hope you both enjoy what I sent! :D

I also picked up Twilight Princess while I was at the mall. I decided to stick with the GC edition, as I can't really justify blowing $250 on the Wii just for this game. I did that with the Super NES and the PS1, and while I don't regret making those decisions back then, as they both turned out to be awesome machines, now I'm a little more economically conservative, so I'll wait until more games come out before I make my choice on whether to get it or not. But man, was I tempted. Nintendo made a shrewd move in making the Wii edition of the game come out earlier than the GC's - not everyone has the patience to wait it out. I know I almost didn't. ^^;

Also, while I was there, I dropped by Suncoast and bought Season 1 of Robot Chicken and vol. 1 of the new Hellsing OVA - it's supposedly going to be more faithful to the manga, so it'll probably be awesome (and hopefully funny - the Hellsing manga's got this sense of humor about itself that the original TV series didn't have, which was kinda sad).

Anyway, that's it for today! Now, to wait for dad to relinquish control of the living room TV so I can watch Anime Network (I was surprised to discover about a week back that we get it on our cable, and it's been Happy Happy Joy Joy for me since then. :D) for a bit. Later, y'all!
aruru: (Default)
[livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, I got your package from Amazon today. Damn, you sure work fast! And now I don't know if I can hold out on opening it until Christmas! *is impatient* ;_;

Anyway, thank you! *hug*

(I have your gift too, I'm just not sure when I'll be able to go out and have it mailed. I'll do it soon, though, hopefully before your trip to see your parents!)
aruru: (Default)
Thanksgiving went by without a hitch. We delivered turkey, stuffing, and potato salad to one of my uncles as well as to a friend of my mom's earlier, and just now I've had my own fill of turkey (And stuffing. I don't like potato salad, so I didn't have that.). Mom and I also polished off a whole bottle of wine by ourseleves, so now I'm feeling slightly lightheaded. Wheeeeeeee~

Anyway, I hope that everyone who celebrates Thanksgiving on my flist had a good time, and everyone who doesn't had a great day as well. :D

Now, to vegetate in front of the TV for a while. Yay!
aruru: (Default)
Mom's working on seasoning tomorrow's turkey right now. The stuffing's already prepared ([livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, you would probably love it - it's an all-meat stuffing that uses ground beef and ground pork in the recipe. :D), so all that needs to be done tomorrow is to take it out of the fridge and stuff into the bird, and roast the whole thing.

Also, my mom and I shopped for a new TV last week, as the old (15+ years, I think) TV wasn't working right anymore (display was wonky). So now, instead of our humble old 27" TV in the living room, we now have one of those fancy 42" flat HDTVs. We also got a DVD/VCR player (that also records on DVD as well as the VCR), so now I can watch my anime in this gloriously big screen (and the subtitles are easier to read). Sweetass. :D

Still haven't picked up Tales of the Abyss from where I left off due to either being busy, or being lazy, in equal parts. So no gamelog for today, sorry. ;_;
aruru: (Default)
Picked up FFXII from the store just a little while ago. Haven't played it yet, and probably won't for a while, as I've still got Tales of the Abyss to play through (man, I am SO way behind on that... ^^;;), so you won't hear me praising/bitching about it like every other gamer is probably doing right now. ^^;

Anyway, in other news: [livejournal.com profile] shinkuu, you've got snail mail headed your way! Just thought I'd give you the heads up. :D
aruru: (Default)
Last night, when I was approving someone's membership to [livejournal.com profile] slayers_etc, it finally hit me:

Dude, I am now actually older than most people in fandom(s).

I can honestly say that I've never actually once felt "old" in my life.

Until today.

......

.........damn you whippersnappers, get off my lawn! *waves cane around menacingly* >O

...there are few things more amusing in the world than hearing your non-cartoon-watching mother hum the "bawk-bawk-bawk-bawk" ending theme to Robot Chicken in time with the tune playing on the TV. XD
