Finally, for our last review, we have the Persona 3 Fes Original Soundtrack. (buy it here - track listing and lyrics in English here)

As you can tell from the title, this CD is the soundtrack for the Persona 3 Fes game/expansion. There are seventeen tracks total - of these, one track is a remix, one is a "mashup" of sorts (combining some old lyrics with new ones, as well as a new beat), while the rest are - I THINK - all brand-new material (I'm not entirely sure, as I'm new to Persona and the SMT series in general.). okay, I was talking out of my ass, sorry. Apparently most(?) of the rest are remixes from the previous Persona games.

Anyway, while this soundtrack starts out a little average, it does carry over P3's original style and general "feel," and it gets fairly good in the later tracks. Below are my thoughts on the individual tracks, plus some samples.

1. P3 Fes - I'm guessing this is the intro theme to Fes. Anyway, it's basically a brief mix of the chorus lines of "Memories of You," part of the main lyrics from "Burn My Dread," and some brand-new rap by Lotus Juice. Very short and ends right when you're getting into it, but catchy nonetheless.

2. Brand New Days -The Beginning- - This is a piano rendition of what I'm ASSUMING is the ending theme to Fes, as the actual track this is based on is at the end of the disc. Nothing much I can say about it, since I don't own Fes, but quiet and pretty nonetheless. A bit short, tho'.

3. Opening Act - Starts out a little ambient, then rocks out a teeny bit. Short, though, VERY short, so it doesn't get very interesting. Too bad, it sounded like it could've had promise.

4. 3/31 - I'm guessing this is an event theme for the date in the title? Anyway, it's a fairly light tune, rather relaxed-sounding. A bit repetitive, though.

5. Blind Alley - No idea where this plays, but it's another light-sounding track, with a little strings and some synth. Not bad, but also a bit repetitive.

6. Interstice of Time - Again, no clue where this plays, but it's an "ambient" sort of tune. A bit too repetitive, should've been shorter for my taste.

7. Mass Destruction -P3 FES Version- - Remix of the normal battle theme from P3 (I'm assuming it also plays during fights here.). Anyway, it's not too different-sounding from the original version, but it's got totally new lyrics. Still very catchy the second time around.

8. The Snow Queen - I don't know where this plays, but I DO recall hearing that the Japanese version of the original Persona had an optional quest called the "Snow Queen quest," so maybe that's what it alludes to (I guess there's also a Snow Queen quest in Fes?). Anyway, it's an instrumental techno-type of track, with piano. Pretty trippy.

9. Maiya Theme - Dunno where this plays. Anyhow, it's mainly an orchestral piano and strings type of piece, and oddly enough, it sounds like something that would've fit in with the soundtrack to the original Wild Arms. Overall good piece.

10. Between Doors - No clue where it plays, but it's another "ambient" sorta track with piano. Loops once, then fades out. A bit repetitive even though it's not too long.

11. Their Own Past - Yet another "ambient" type of tune, with a little bit of piano in some parts. Not much to say about it, as I don't find it too interesting.

12. Heartful Cry - Starts with a cute-sounding bit of piano, then turns into a cool mix of rock and electronica-type sounds a few seconds in. Very nice.

13. Persona - Um, I'm not very musically inclined, so it's hard for me to describe this. But basically, a piano piece with what I GUESS is some bass guitar, and a little bit of strings in certain parts. Anyway, a decent track.

14. Time Castle - A rock theme, followed by a piano solo, then goes back to rocking again. Rinse and repeat. Anyhow, while repetitive, it's fairly cool, in my book.

15. Seal - Orchestral-type piece. Starts out with some drums, then followed by the main melody with strings, and later a piano. Not very long, as it doesn't loop.

16. Darkness - Basically? Rock with a bit of electronica sound mixed in. Also, a tiny bit of strings mixed in some parts. Loops once, then fades. Overall, a cool track.

17. Brand New Days - I'm ASSUMING this is the ending theme to Fes (given that it's the last track and all). Anyway, like "Memories of You," it's a J-pop song. And like that one, it's pretty nice, too. I enjoy it, at least.

Well, I'm done. Honestly, this review was probably the hardest to write, considering I don't have P3: Fes, so I'm not familiar with anything regarding it.

The Final Verdict: This is a decent "expansion" of the original game's soundtrack, as it manages to preserve its feel while still being distinctive making shout-outs to the previous games in the series. A bit short, given it's only an expansion, but not bad at all. The only "warning" I can think of in getting this is that, if Atlus were to decide to bring Fes over to this side of the world, there's a chance they might add a bonus CD again, which - given how small this soundtrack is - would make purchasing this redundant. But, since we don't know about that for sure, you might still want to consider buying the OST.

So, that's it for the reviews! It was fun to do them, but MAN, am I beat. WHEW!

Hi there! :D

I didn't know any of that, including the bit about Fuuka and the mp3 player. I take it you've played Fes, then?

Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this information! Plus I like hearing from new people, too. ^_^

Ah, I see.

I'm not far in the main game, so I'm not going to ask for spoilers regarding Fes (since that might spoil the main game for me, and I've thus far managed to avoid doing so and want to keep it that way), but I did want to ask: Did it get a bad reception over in Japan? Since you mention you don't like the sound of it and all...

Oh, ok then. (I must admit, I'm more curious now, but ZOMG SPOILARZ!, so I'll leave it at that.)

I don't have any other Suiko icons, and I already used Tosh earlier, so I'll raise you the only other gaming-related icon I got - manga!Kairi, hee. ^^

Hey, I've seen that Yam Koo icon somewhere before! *checks your FL* Oh, you're one of [livejournal.com profile] charmwitch's friends! Angie's great, isn't she? Nice to meet you! :D

And oh yeah, out of curiosity: What exactly were you searching for when you found this LJ, anyway?

Lastly, your username's making me hungry. I don't have any stir-fry, but I do have a sammich waiting for me, so off I go! :D~~~~ *poof!*

*LOL* I know! I thought my fixation on red-haired fellas (like Tosh right here, or Gaav from Slayers, for that matter) was worrisome, but lately, she's quite possibly got me beat! Curses! D:

Though maybe I still have her beat with my big beefy uke obsession, heehee... >D

Ah, ok. Wow, the searchbots picked up on my entries real quick, then. :O

Anyway, good luck finding those lyrics! I tried looking at some of my usual sources (Which admittedly are not many, but it usually works out for me.) in case I could point you in the right direction, but all they have are lyrics for Eternal Punishment songs. Sorry! :\

Say, did you ever get the CDs I sent? I'm starting to worry that I PACKED THEM SO POORLY THEY ALL BROKE. D:

Also, I went to buy groceries on Tuesday, and the FES soundtrack wound up in my cart. I have no clue what happened there! But yea, I loved it so much I needed my own official copy...

Heyo! ^_^

I was going to post last night that I got the CDs earlier that day (they look just fine, cases and all), actually, but then I fell asleep and it was forgotten (Sorry about that!). I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet, but I'm looking forward to it! :D *huggle* Thanks again! Oh, and thanks for the letter too! ^^

*LOL* They sell soundtracks in your grocery store? Or do you just have an imports place near it? XD Anyway, it's awesome that you got it! ^^

Yay! I'm glad they got to you okay. Let me know how you like them, when you get to it!

And I was shopping at Uwajimaya for octopus and ramen, and they sadly contain a bookstore. With a CD department. Which puts their one copy of the FES soundtrack on display. JERKS.

Will do! I'll let you know... sometime in the next couple of days. Doubtful it'll be tomorrow, as I already have plans to go out with a friend that day. She just got her driver's license (About time - she's 26, and it's not like we have a good public transport system to get around with ease in! :O) and is still getting used to actually driving without an instructor. It'll be an adventure, so pray for us*! XD

Dude, that's... actually pretty awesome, that you can get import CDs AND your groceries at the same time. :O

Hell, just from eyeing a little of that site, the store overall sounds like a pretty cool place to shop at. I'm envious!

* - Actually, I already went to the mall with her at the wheel on Thursday. She's not at all bad, she just kinda overanalyzes her manuevers a bit, which makes her seem a little slow and shaky. She'll gain confidence with time, though, I'm sure.

I noticed that one of the rules in wtf_inc is "NO PERSONAL ATTACKS". My inbox continues to fill with personal attacks about my infant son. Is there any possible way to delete that post or freeze comments because I am getting pretty fucking pissed that I'm still being harassed.

thanks.

Hi,

Sorry I didn't look at this sooner - I just got on, and my internet service is being a bit spotty, so I'll try to be brief.

Anyway, I looked at the dates on the thread and, to be totally honest, it seems to have pretty much died down already, and the only reason you're getting a few replies today is because you're insisting on trying to get the last word edgewise. Just let it go, and you should be fine.

I've considered freezing the thread, but I'm not sure how well that would work - there's a small chance it might trigger a new thread to be started elsewhere, and as I said before, I think it's pretty much over with already. Considering this possibility, do you still want the thread frozen? It's up to you.

I'll wait it out for a few days and if the comments continue then I would like it frozen. I do think that you should remind the members of the community of the rules, however.

Thanks for responding.

Ok. Just remember, don't reply AT ALL to the thread anymore (not even to any last replies you may have left just now before you spoke to me), and I'm sure you should be fine.
