Waie.... @_@
Sep. 19th, 2002 01:43 am........and I played for so long and with the volume so loud I wound up making myself dizzy and with a headache. X_x I'm fine now, but... well, ow.
Anyway, I played up to visiting Wonderland, so preliminary thoughts:
-Play control was a bit weird at first, but I got used to the basic attack style (which is much like Brave Fencer Musashi, except you have 2 AI-controlled charas to take care of) quickly enough. Magic has been a bit tricky to use thus far, even with the button shortcuts assigned to the spells I have - this is probably because the action's all quite fast-paced, and I've grown too used to turn-based games where I have more time to think.
-It looks like my AI-controlled characters (Donald and Goofy thus far) are going to be a bit high-maintenance, at least in the HP department (and in Donald's case, the MP department too). Ah well, at least you have different preset AI options and the custom one - I guess I'll just have to tweak around with it a bit until I find something that better suits my style.
-Graphics-wise, it's as colorful and shiny and pretty as you'd expect from a crackheaded idea as this is.
-Sora seems like a pretty neat kid. The choice of voice actor is perfect for his look, too.
-Riku's voice suits him quite well too. No major thoughts on him just yet.
-I usually consider myself to be quite receptive to female characters (unlike a lot of fangirls out there, who seem to hate them by default :P), but I'm afraid I have to say that thus far, Kairi's not impressing me much. In fact, she's kind of rubbed me the wrong way a little bit, though I can't exactly explain WHY. (As a side note, her voice acting thus far is only average next to Sora and Riku.)
-Donald's already had one of his incoherent screaming fits. Me = happy. *has always been easily amused by those* XD
-Square decided to go with the original "Aerith" spelling for a certain well-loved female Cetra. Let the name wars among the fanboys begin anew! (As for her voice, Mandy Moore has thus far wavered between being more or less right for the role to being just "eh..." for it. It's decent, at least.)
-I'm surprised they went with the "proper" (read: Japanese) pronunciation of Yuffie's name (pronounced "YOU-fee") rather than changing it to how an English-speaker would instinctively sound it out ("YUH-fie," or something like that). (Her voice acting's pretty good, too. Not the most superb or anything, but I thought it was better than Aerith's, at least thus far.)
-Squall's surprisingly nice thus far, in major contrast to the "whatever" attitude of before. Voice acting's not bad, either.
-Cid had no voice acting thus far. Sad. ;_;
-Also, call me a sick, sick puppy, but I couldn't help but KEEP GFSing CID'S OVERT FRIENDLINESS TO SORA. Wrong, I tell you, just wrong! *stabs self* ^^;;
.....and I can't think of anything else to comment offhand. Anyway, thus far it's as bizarre as y'all could expect it to be, maybe even more. I'll post some more whenever I pick it up again (most likely tomorrow), but if any of you got any other questions you'd like me to give an opinion on, feel free to leave a note on the LJ and I'll see if I can answer. :D

Date: 2002-09-21 12:50 am (UTC)Uh, don't mind me, I'm just getting caught up in my rabid Donald fannishness from childhood. ^^;

Date: 2002-09-21 12:30 am (UTC)Anyway, yes, he does a pretty good job as Squall. And that teenybopper singer (Lance Bass, I think?) they enlisted to play Cloud surprised me - I was expecting some pretty horrid voice acting from that, and Cloud's scene (the one I've seen thus far, at least) was actually pretty decent (not quite as good as Squall, but...).
The actor that REALLY shines, though, is Haley Joel Osment (sp?) as Sora. Thus far, he sounds totally comfortable playing his role (Something I've noticed is that sometimes someone who is a good actor on-screen may not be very imressive as a voice actor [and vice-versa], and this kid's already recognized for his movie roles and now pulls this off, which is just like, wow. Now that's talent right there.). I really hope this kid never gets hit by the child actor curse, he's got the gift.
*also "yay!"s at the Donald fans* :D

He actually does the voice for Sephiroth. Isn't that just... awful?
