Well, the PS2 did the same thing (the controls not responding) last night (the 12th) when I tried turning it on without a game, so the problem's obviously the PS2 (or maybe the controller, but whatever). So I said to myself "fuck it, just get a new PS2 - it's currently just $130 for a new one, and they probably won't lower the price that much more anyhow, even with the PS3's release."

So, after trading the old one in, now I have a new PS2. And it's TINY. I really can't believe just how COMPACT this thing is next to the old model. That midget guy (Reducto?) from Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law would die from admiration at how small this thing is.

And to further put a dent into my wallet, I also picked up three more games: Tales of the Abyss, Shadow Hearts, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant ([livejournal.com profile] ruaki, you are a bad, bad influence. ;D). The latter two I picked up from the used bin (Though they were expensive even from the used bin - almost $40 each. Must be because they're kinda rare.).

Now I just have to figure out what to play, as I still have Yakuza, not to mention the enourmous backlog of unfinished games I already had before that. Eep. ^^;

No, it's the skinny, flat one they came out with... maybe a year and a half ago? Two years? And it opens from the top. Anyway, it's that one.

SO TINY. I'm afraid I'll break it! :O

I don't like the fact that it doesn't come with an off switch like the original model did, though. You have to unplug it if you're not going to use it for long periods of time. (Ah well, I'll just switch off the multi-outlet/surge protector I have it hooked up to. No skin off my nose.)

Yea, that's the one! I was always scared I'd break it, too. I still have my old clunker, but it's back at my parents' house.

I thought for some reason that if you REALLY held down the button, it'd go off.

But maybe it was just hibernating all that time! Shows what I know about modern gaming systems, sigh...

No, according to the installation guide (which I consulted after I couldn't find the freakin' on/off switch anywhere, but had figured out how to turn it on with the Reset button, and was left wondering how the hell you turned it off), holding down the Reset button just makes it go into Standby mode. Which the guide says is okay to leave on if you use it regularly, but if you're going to not use it for a while, then they recommend unplugging it.

Since I tend to sometimes not-play for stretches of time, I'm doing just that (well, turning off the outlet it's on, at least). Still, what a weird system. O_o
