Le PS2 est mort, vive le PS2!
Oct. 13th, 2006 11:05 pmWell, the PS2 did the same thing (the controls not responding) last night (the 12th) when I tried turning it on without a game, so the problem's obviously the PS2 (or maybe the controller, but whatever). So I said to myself "fuck it, just get a new PS2 - it's currently just $130 for a new one, and they probably won't lower the price that much more anyhow, even with the PS3's release."
So, after trading the old one in, now I have a new PS2. And it's TINY. I really can't believe just how COMPACT this thing is next to the old model. That midget guy (Reducto?) from Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law would die from admiration at how small this thing is.
And to further put a dent into my wallet, I also picked up three more games: Tales of the Abyss, Shadow Hearts, and Shadow Hearts: Covenant (
ruaki, you are a bad, bad influence. ;D). The latter two I picked up from the used bin (Though they were expensive even from the used bin - almost $40 each. Must be because they're kinda rare.).
Now I just have to figure out what to play, as I still have Yakuza, not to mention the enourmous backlog of unfinished games I already had before that. Eep. ^^;

Date: 2006-10-14 05:31 am (UTC)Dude, they're redesigning the PS2, even though it'll be soon on its way out? Sheesh. Well, at least there won't be a shortage of them anytime soon, in case this new one goes bust quickly.
...I do hope they put back the damn off switch if they go ahead with the redesign, though.

Date: 2006-10-16 02:46 am (UTC)I don't know if they plan on the PS2 going out anytime soon, though, even though the PS3 IS supposed to be just on the horizon. The PS2's getting a bunch of neat games, even at this stage of its lifecycle! I guess it just makes sense for developers, since the PS3 will be backwards-compatible and there's no telling just how many people will own a PS3 in the next few months.
I've had friends tell me about how some people just don't seem to "get" that on/off switch on the old PS2, though. It was certainly true with my old roommates! I guess having that switch on the back AND the power button in the front is too much for some people. It's probably no big deal to remove the switch... I'm not sure how much power the system eats in sleep mode, but I don't think it's too much. But then again, aren't some groups already complaining about how future systems will be draining power in sleep mode, such as the Wii with its 24-hour "Wii Connect" service?
I dunno! I guess the solution these days is just to physically unplug the system...
